Diners, Drive-ins and Dives

Peter and I are big fans of the Food Network. We're also fans of going out to lunch on weekends as an activity, either exploring new places or as something to do. Saturday was very overcast, in between the torrential thunderstorms and we decided to check out a place that had just been visited by the Food Network's Guy Fieri for his show "Diners, Drive-ins and Dives." Well I don't think we were the only ones in Dallas with this idea - it was packed. Peter had been to the one downtown, but we went to the one in the suburbs, and this being Dallas, nothing is too far. Peter and I both had burgers with green chile, guacamole and pepper jack cheese (though my burger was black bean and corn). It was very yummy. I was disappointed with their kid selections. The choice was grilled cheese or mini corn dogs. I'm generally opposed to children's menus because I think they keep kids in a culinary playpen. And at a burger/hot dog joint, it made no sense to me why there weren't more kid selections - a small plain burger or hot dog? Katie did love the mini corn dogs (and yes I cut them length-wise first).

Dallas seems to love styrofoam - as the above cup. Very strange and would never go over in NYC. The cashier at Target looked at me funny today when I told her I didn't want any bags. Definitely not the greenest place. Katie got the headband for her birthday. I think it makes her look rather grown up.
