Rhode Island
We had a little vacation within our vacation. We left Katie with my parents and her Aunt Rachel and off we went to Providence for Amy & Josh's wedding. Amy grew up in Rhode Island and so it was a natural decision for her to get married there, even though she and Josh have been living in DC for many years. We're always happy to have an excuse to go to RI, especially Brown. Rhode Island is a pretty unique state and very small in many ways besides just geography. Amy's sister included a number of references to this in her speech and Peter and I were very amused.
You see, despite it's small size, Rhode Islanders don't actually believe in driving any large distances. It's a big joke to anyone who wasn't born there. Amy is from Warwick, which is actually the town the Providence airport is in, about 8 miles away. Thanksgiving of senior year, Amy's parents wanted her and her brother to coordinate their schedules for the weekend because they didn't want to make 2 trips to "the city." I had to laugh when I heard this. I'm from NJ, I went to school in NY, and it was a longer distance from my house to my high school than from Brown to Amy's house. I told her it really wasn't a big deal, I'd be happy to drive her. I'm not sure that I did, but I think it's a funny story to illustrate how RI-ers view distance... Amy's a big Urban Meadow fan, but she's off on her honeymoon in Barcelona so I'm not sure she'll read this.
Peter and I are standing in front of the Brown Bear on the main green of campus. The wedding was right next to campus and in between the ceremony and reception, we took a stroll around campus. We have a series of these pictures of us in front of the Brown bear since 1998 - which I wish I could share b/c it's pretty funny. But without a digital camera then, you'll have to have to see it frames by our front door. So here's a pic of us in front of the Brown Bear in 2003.

yay! I'm catching up on Katie and Meadow's adventures now that we're back from our honeymoon. So happy you and Peter were at the wedding - and enjoyed the RI venue :)
Love the pics of Katie - such a little grown up already!
