Shabbat Dinner

Two weeks ago, Katie got to bring home the Shabbat backpack from her class. The Shabbat backpack comes complete with challah and candlesticks and kiddush cup and everything to creat a Shabbat celebration at home, including the class monkey above. Well I found out about this that day so instant pressure to create a wonderful Shabbat meal. Yes, it would be ideal to do it every week, but I'm not very into cooking lately. This Friday, we happened to spend way too much time at the pediatrician checking out Katie's poison oak (see previous post about yardwork), so by the time we got back from Whole Foods, it was late and we had a "teamwork" meal, as I called it to Katie. I prepped the chicken, Peter grilled it. I made the vegetable, and Katie and I made a salad together. She loves making salad.

We ate in the dining room and we bought a special challah. Katie explained it this way, "school challah Mommy, not so good." She's correct, of course. Whole Foods has the best challah in Dallas.

The Shabbat backpack had a Shabbat journal so we could write about our Shabbat. I included some pictures in it, such as this one with Meadow. Meadow joined us for Hamotzi because she's a big fan of challah.
