"Have fun play in dirt"

Katie and Meadow helped Aunt Rachel plant Dima & Dipa's garden last Sunday. Planting my parents' garden is an annual job of Rachel's and she thought Katie would enjoy it when she did it this year. Now Katie is often, though not always, a neat kid. She's the kind of child who throws out the wrapping paper before she opens a gift and she's someone asks for napkins at all meals ("I made mess," she says). I wasn't sure that Katie would like planting, but it turns out that she loved it! She loved playing in the dirt and she even helped dig wholes. Meadow got in on the action too, as you see below. Don't laugh, but Meadow really came in handy - she overturned the garden while she was digging her big hole. Meadow loves to dig and, being an Urban Meadow, she rarely has a sanctioned opportunity to do so.

By the time we were done, Katie was covered in dirt and she had a bath in NJ. It was a really hot day so we all went home and took naps. When she woke up, Katie said "I have fun play in dirt with Aunt Rachel."
