Happy Valentine's Day
Happy Valentine's Day from Katie. Katie got very excited for Valentine's Day this year. Not that she knows what it is and not that it has much meaning, but she was excited to make cards for her aunts and grandparents and asked all week if it was Valentine's Day yet. I chose this picture to put on the blog because I think it's amusing to see how children color when they don't have the cultural baggage of color symbolism. This is Aunt Rachel's Valentine and she asked me to draw flowers (Aunt Rachel loves drawing flowers with Katie), which I did in red. She then drew the stems and colored the flowers in - in black. I tried to say that maybe she should choose a different color, but she told me she likes black. That's fine. Apologies Aunt Rachel, there is no symbolism in sending you a Valentine with black flowers. Katie just likes the color.
