Four Generations of Women
We went to a diner and then to visit Oma on Tuesday. I showed her pictures of our house. It was really nice to share these with her, because obviously she'll never see it in person. But what I liked most is that Oma said, "I love to see that you're using my things." She recognized a lot of her things in our home. I tell people that our furnishings are basically NYC apartment and Grandmother. We have Oma's dining room set (which we did have in our 2nd nyc apartment), her couch in the living room, her dresser and night tables in the guest room, and lots of beautiful paintings, particularly from my mother's great uncle Milo. Of course Oma also said that we need furniture. I'm actually happy when she makes such more typical Oma comments.
Most people my age do not have grandparents left, so the fact that 4 generations could gather (even in a nursing home) makes it particularly special.
