Summer in Dallas

Summer in Dallas is no joke. It's hot. It's really hot. Sometimes it feels beyond hot. I haven't gotten used to this yet, though I doubt that I will ever get used to the fun of getting into the car in the late afternoon in an unshaded parking lot and looking at the temperature on my dashboard. I have a feeling that it's a greater measure of the heat index than the actual temperature because it always tells me it's hotter than the computer or the radio says it is. But it is such a shock to see it say 115 or 126 (the record so far).

Summer here is counter-intuitive. You actually want it to be cloudy because it won't be as hot. Rain is good too, then it's definitely cloudy. But rain comes with humidity and it makes it feel strangely NY like. I'm beginning to think that's not good. It's still a debate though, which is better. Is 86 degrees with 65% humidity (which makes it feel like 95) better than 100 will little humidity?

We've had some hot stretches, but the past week has been cool (though sometimes rainy). We've used the pool less in the past week and the rain cools the pool down somewhat.

It doesn't really register to Katie that it's that hot. I know it's because she's young. Peter doesn't remember it being this hot when he was growing up, it's because it didn't bother him then. Katie only complains when we get in the car. "It's hot," she'll tell me. "I know Katie. We live in Dallas. It's hot here."

Ice pops are a favorite treat during the summer and Katie and her friends are having lots of them.
