Back to school!

I know I've mentioned this before, but the problem with getting so behind in blogging is that I miss writing about what's happening now. And I missed blogging Katie's first day of school! I was hoping she'd smile more for the camera, but no luck. I bought her this dress for Rosh Hashanah and she really wanted to wear it for the first day of school. Well honestly, the first day of school is a much bigger deal for her than Rosh Hashanah. But we she did wear it for Yom Kippur.

My baby's in pre-K! All summer, Katie kept saying "I can't wait until pre-K." Pre-K is very special at Temple Emanu-El Preschool. There are 3 classes and the pre-K is the oldest and they have long days Tuesdays and Thursdays. Like the 3s classes, the Pre-K classes have literary themed names. Katie is in the Curious George class. I love the class. I love the teachers and the kids - and the other parents. Finally, I have friends in Katie's class. Yes, it's not about me, it's about her education, but I have to say it's wonderful to walk into the class in the morning or after school and see moms who are friendly and actually want to chat with me. Basically all of the kids who go to TE and Katie had playdates with this summer are in her class - Julia, Giulia, Ellie, Sammy and Brian.

The actual classroom is a little smaller than last year, but it has a wonderful view of Gan Shalom and a private door leading out to it. There's a lot of word recognition going on and art projects. All great things!

There are a total of 4 girls in the class, including Katie. It's one more than last year and it seems to make a big difference for Katie, who wants to play with them all - not just Julia. Katie's teacher Harriet was very proud of her yesterday. She ended up being the only girl sitting at her lunch table and she didn't whine or pout or cry. She said, "I'm the only girl at the table. It doesn't matter if there's one girl or 2 girls. It'll be okay."
