The idiosyncracies of a 22-month-old

Katie's been pretty amusing lately. Amusing and frustrating so you need to see the humor in toddlers.

"Face. Face. Face!" Katie's obsessed with face cream. We have a collection of face cream sticks to put on her so she doesn't get wind burn or chapped from the cold. She just wants to hold the stick - all the time. She'll take her little stool and climb to reach it in the dresser drawer or on the counter.

Her name stool - she loves it (Thanks Janet!). Katie carries it everywhere to try and get things she shouldn't or to mess up her drawers.

Katie likes to be picked up more this week. It makes no sense because she's even more capable of walking everywhere now, but no, she wants me to carry her. We had a show-down on Broadway on Sunday, in the middle of the sidewalk and all the people walked by smiling. I felt redeemed on Monday though, when a complete stranger on the bus complemented my parenting (I had been firm that Katie had to sit on the bus and then I distracted her by singing).

Katie loves singing now. She's very into the books by Iza Trapani which have new verses for classic kids songs such as "I'm a Little Teapot" and "Twinkle Twinkle." She asks for these books all the time "Teapop book! Tickle book!"

So she's really starting to assert her opinions and I know it's just a small hop to tantrums. She wants to pick out her clothes now which inevitably means "puppy shirt." Good thing a lot of her clothes have puppies or pandas on them. Posted by Picasa
