Katie goes to space

Last week was space week for the Sammy Spiders. They learned all about the planets and the sun and moon and even did a taste test of astronaut food. Katie liked the Tang, raisins, astronaut ice cream, and even the "beef turkey," but surprisingly not the terra chips (which she eats at home). I loved hearing about the curriculum through her eyes. She told me that we couldn't go to the sun because it was too hot and we'd get burned and that Pluto used to be a planet, but it's not anymore. On Friday, she brought her space helmet and oxygen tank home after her brief moon walk at school ("It was a pretend space walk Daddy.") Above is the attire and she explained that the glitter in the soda bottle was bubbles in the oxygen tank.

On Friday night, she asked Peter why we don't fall off the earth! I loved that and of course they had a discussion about gravity with demonstrations. And she now points out earth where ever we see it - and its image appears with surprising frequency.
