Camp Simchah

Katie started camp last week. She loves it! Here she is at orientation with her friend Ellie. I was surprised when we got the camp group list - 17 kids and we knew 15 of them (7 of them being former Sammy Spiders). Katie's school also has camp, but we decided that we wanted her to go to a camp that had swimming. To me, camp is all about swimming - always my favorite part of camp and where I could even be found as a counselor. Camp Simchah is at the J. At the parent orientation, I was again reminded that we're in Texas when they said "the kids only play outside for 15 or 20 minutes a day, it's too hot." Yesterday, Katie complained that she and her friend Katie couldn't go on the rocking purple dinosaurs because they were too hot from the sun.

Katie is very proud of the fact that "I don't learn anything at camp," compared to school. What's different for me is that the J has an active "carpool" system where most parents drop off and pick up their children in front of the building. While each system has it's advantages, it also means that you don't see other parents and you don't get to see the kids interact. So far I've avoided this, because I also don't really want to sit in the car with a/c running waiting to pick up Katie.
