"It's a chrysalis"
Katie's class had a unit on insects recently. I made gnocchi shaped pasta (as opposed to actual gnocchi) and she looked at it and said "it's a chrysalis."
So despite the fact that she loves "The Very Hungry Caterpillar," I'm impressed that she has learned that Eric Carle was incorrect. The caterpillar does not have a cocoon, it has a chyrsalis.
