School!

Last Friday we had meet the teacher day at Katie's new school. We decided to have her go to the wonderful preschool at the Temple which we joined. I can't even begin to tell you how different the process was than NYC. We went on a tour of the school with the director, they had space, and that was it. While we heard wonderful things about the teachers and the classes, we fell in love with the facilities. The playground is amazing and they have a garden in which the kids participate and they grown basil and strawberries and tomatoes and flowers. It was such a contrast to the playground on the roof that was shared with 2 other preschools at the school Katie was going to go to in NYC. A real library and art room and big sunny classrooms looking out onto a courtyard.

Anyway, here is Katie with her teacher Liz. The gender balance in her class is very off - 9 boys and 3 girls and considering the number of girl friends she had in NYC, I wasn't too happy with this. But the boys numbers are just off in the 3s class and Katie's class reflects this. I think the teachers are wonderful and their philosophy seems very much in line with what we want for our daughter's preschool education. So hopefully Katie will learn to be better friends with boys.

And did I mention that my April born daughter is the YOUNGEST in her class! Most of the kids are Sept-Dec birthdays. Strange when I always thought of April as the perfect month for a birthday because you were neither the youngest or the oldest. Oh well. Katie is still about the tallest in the class.
