Ruqsana

Almost everyone whom I've been outside our house with has been introduced to our friend Ruqsana. Ruqsana and her husband Naz have the fruit cart outside of our building and Katie has loved her from the beginning. They've left now for the winter and as Katie eats her last "Ruqsana banana" this morning, I'm sad.

When Katie was into listening to the Sesame Street CD last year I kept thinking of Ruqsana every time we heard the song "People in Your Neighborhood." She is such a friendly person and definitely adds to the sense of community. I love hearing about her family in Bangladesh and some of the cultural differences, especially when it comes to women and family issues. But we'll see her in spring - with bananas and hugs for Katie and even pets for Meadow.
