"The whole family" at the park

Saturday was relatively warm and sunny - at least for this time of year in NYC. So "the whole family," as Katie likes to call the 3 of us and Meadow, went to the park. The funny thing was that when we told her we were taking Meadow she said, "But Meadow doesn't need a walk!" Now technically she is correct if you want to define "needing a walk" as in needing to relieve herself, we walk her later in the day for that (it was about 11 am). But it also made me sad to think that we don't take both girls out often enough that the human one thinks walking the dog is only a chore that one needs to accomplish. Meadow's walks for pleasure tend to take place without Katie - because it's easier.

Anyway, it was the inaugural outside ride of the tricycle. And she did great. Notice the trike has a parent push bar in back which made it easier to get her to and from the park (2 blocks away). She has to work on her steering, but all in time of course. For a first run, she did great! And you may notice that she's wearing a helmet. Katie proudly calls this her "bicycle hat" and will wear it for fun around the house. She's not wearing it for safey reasons as much as it's practice to get her in the habit of wearing a helmet for when she rides a bike.

And no trip to the park would be complete without a picnic - Katie's favorite thing. Picnic, in this case, being pretzel fish and apple juice.
