Middle of the night party
Robin slept over for the very first time. As you may know, our daughter worships her older cousin - they're 19 months apart. So Katie couldn't be happier that Robin was there with her and Robin took a bath with her and Robin was sleeping in her bed. But Robin didn't want to sleep in Katie's bed and I made her a comfy "sleeping bag" on the floor. They were both exhauasted after a party and rainy ride home listening to "The Little Mermaid" soundtrack and fell asleep pretty well by about 10:30.
At 4:30 am I hear them playing in the living room. Yes, we live in a small apartment and the living room is right outside our room. I jumped out of bed and said something to the effect of "what do you girls think you are doing, go back to bed!" Turns out Robin got Katie up (Katie's a sleeper, Robin isn't). At 5:30 in the morning, I hear them again playing in the living room. At that point I say forget it. I went to the living room and said, "fine ladies, you can play. We're sleeping. Wake me if you need anything." And they played for hours while Peter and Meadow and I tried to sleep.
By about 8:00, we weren't sleeping, Peter had already walked Meadow, we're all exhausted and we need to do something. So we walk to the diner at 100th and West End (4 blocks away). Katie is very proud of the fact that it's the "diner on the way to ballet class." I'm impressed that we're actually out for breakfast. Peter points out that it's the first time we've been out to breakfast (brunch is very common on the UWS). Katie and I went out with our Silber-Medoff cousins once, but she was 3 months old.
NYC diner food is surprisingly good, even if you are very sober and very tired. My nephew Pete said later, "there are diners in the city?" Yes, and they're pretty much like the diners in NJ (perhaps the best diner center of the country), just a little more expensive and they don't have kids' menus.
Oh - and Katie closed her eyes on purpose in this picture. She loves to do that this week.
